Hanoi Street Food Tour
Follow your Hanoian food and travel blogger, Buffalo Joe, in your Hanoi Street Food Tour to immerse in the bustling atmosphere of the Old Quarter, to sample so many flavorful and delicious Vietnamese foods, and to learn about the city’s exciting food and drink culture.
Meet up at a hotel in the Old Quarter, then you eat as you go.
Together, we walk to the street stalls and markets (with ongoing explanations of food practices, strange food items and delicacies), sampling their produce and eating from their dishes and bowls. Visit a local restaurant and watch the expert chef at work, then take a seat to dine on the famous Bun Cha, a dish of charcoal grilled pork served in dipping sauce, flanked by rice noodles and fresh herbs. Have you heard of Barrack Obama and the celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, perched on bright blue plastic stools, eating Bun Cha when the U.S. president was on his official visit to Vietnam?
Continue on to a hidden lane to get in one of the oldest coffee shops to sample their signature drink, the Egg Coffee. Simply prepared with egg yolk, sweeten condensed milk and Vietnamese coffee, this like-liquid-tiramisu can make everyone happy. But if coffee is not your style, a local brew Bia hoi awaits! Then traverse to the food section of Hanoi’s main Dong Xuan market - a street food alley for noodle lunch and fruit stalls, take in the sights, the sounds, and the aromas of foods on offer at every direction. Your next street food dishes may include Nom Bo Kho (green papaya salad with dried beef), Thit Xien Nuong (street grilled skewered pork), Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwich), Pho (beef/chicken noodle soup), Banh Cuon (steamed rice pancake), Banh Xeo (fried rice pancake), Banh Ran Ngot (sweet rice donut), Che (Vietnamese dessert) and some local drinks ... At the end of the tour, you can shoose to be assisted with directions or a taxi to head back to your hotel on your own.
