Hanoi Street Food Tour with Buffalo Joe
Buffalo Joe will meet and greet at your hotel to start your Hanoi Street Food Tour, talk about your food expectations then we eat as we walk in the Old Quarter. Regarding to your wish list, we head to different directions where we can find delicious street foods on our way.
The regular itinerary of a food tour in the morning is exciting, first we walk toward the Hàng Bè market to try some "Nộm Bò Khô" (green papaya salad with beef jerkies) and "Bánh Khúc" (steamed sticky rice cake), both are typical street foods of Hanoi. Then, we head to the famous Café Giảng, one of the oldest coffee shop in town, to try their signature drink – the Egg Coffee. Though hidden behind a narrow lane on a busy street, Café Giảng has been well-known as the original egg coffee shop since 1946. Beside egg coffee, you can also try other unique beverages such as egg beer, egg chocolate, egg matcha tea and so on.
With ongoing explanations of the local food practices, continue onto Thanh Ha wet market to see the articles of our daily necessity. Located in the heart of the old town, Thanh Ha has been known as a rustic but charming market since the French colonial period. Here, you will find not only the sellers with produces from the countryside, but also strange food items and delicacies set available on the sidewalks. Traverse the Dong Xuan wholesale market to get to know about the city’s busiest trading area before heading down to its food lane, where we can enjoy the sights, the sounds, and the aroma of foods on offer at every direction. Stop and pull up a plastic chair to try some "Bánh Tôm" (shrimp cakes), a delicacy of Hanoi. Freshwater shrimps are bathed in flour with eggs and put in a deep-frying pan, hence the cakes are beautiful, fragrant and crispy.
Our next dishes are tropical fruits we see on our way, "Bánh Mì" (Vietnamese baguette) and "Bún Chả" (the dish that Barack Obama fell in love with), then we drink "Bia Hơi" - the Vietnam draft beer and sample some local snacks "Nem Chua". Of cause, we can always eat more if you still have room for that, as Hanoi has so many awesome foods to offer!
