Located on the banks of the Mekong River, Vientiane is the largest city and the capital of Laos. The open air night market, that opens every day from the sunset, offers a great atmosphere and opportunities to bring home with authentic Lao souvenirs.
Fills with pop-up stalls selling Lao traditional fabrics, pretty ornaments, Buddhist-inspired paintings, bright bags and handmade paper lanterns. A great part of the night market’s stalls sells Lao textiles, while other parts dishes up Lao cuisine, from grilled meats to chili-base dips with vegetables and Lao sticky rice.
The area really comes alive from the sunset, not only the night market, but there are many street vendors and people gathering all around. The open areas by the Mekong are filled with group aerobics classes, and you will see the crowds getting their sweat on together in the pumping music. That just reminds me of the local people in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, enjoying their daily exercise around the Hoan Kiem Lake.
It would be a relaxing night out along the river, let’s enjoy your walk upstream from the night market and promenade area. There are plenty of outdoor restaurants along the riverbank, all with drinks and lots of food grilled out all around you.
