Hand-rowing Sampans

Hand-rowing sampan (flat bottomed bamboo boat) tour is one of the highlights on our tours to Ninh Binh, which offers a great chance to engage with local people while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the area from the water. Admire the stunning limestone karst by taking a scenic sampan journey in Van Long Nature Reserve, and enjoy the tranquility of the countryside of northern Vietnam.

Set amid glorious limestone formations, the tranquil Van Long Nature Reserve boasts a reedy wetland which is home to the rare black-faced spoonbill, cotton pygmy goose and white-browed crake. Van Long holds two national records: the biggest community of Delacour’s langur and the largest natural painting. In fact, the site is one of the last wild refuges of the endangered Delacour’s langur, though the rare langurs can only be spot by luck.

It’s ideal take the boat ride early in the morning to watch the site at dawn, or late in the afternoon to admire the breathtaking view of flocks of storks returning to their nests at sunset. When sunlight hides behind the lime mountains, the langur often comes down the cliffs to the lagoon to drink and seek food.
